Oxbow's Olson in second place heading into final round in LPGA major
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif.—The first LPGA Tour major of the year has a familiar name near the leaderboard—at least to golf fans in North Dakota and western Minnesota. A North Dakota State graduate from Oxbow, N.D., Amy Olson shot a 4-under-par 68 and sits in second place by herself heading into Sunday's final round in the ANA Inspiration tournament.
Olson, at 11-under, is the top American golfer after shooting rounds of 69-68-68 at the Mission Hills Country Club. Pernilla Lindberg from Sweden is the leader at 14-under. Six players are in third place at 10-under.
Olson got to within three shots of the lead at 11-under after a birdie on No. 13, her fourth birdie of the day up until that point. She bogeyed the 14th but parred the next three holes before finishing with a birdie on the par-5 18th.
Olson's best career finish in a major was a tie for 52nd in the 2016 U.S. Women's Open. She came into this tournament with two top-10 career finishes in 87 starts.
