Now it's Friday which means something in Grand Forks. It means it's racing day at River Cities Speedway.

In the street stocks, this is the 33 car of Daniel Aberle from Finley, North Dakota taking the checkered in heat one. John Halvorson won the feature.

Then in the midwest mods, it's Gary Nelson in the 74 car cruising around the track for the victory. Jeremy Lizakowski won the feature.

In the late models, it's fan favorite, Grand Forks native Dustin Strand getting the W in heat number one. Ricky Weiss won the feature.

And last but not least, in the sprint cars, it was Grand Forks native Jade Hastings in the 8 car getting the win. Chris Ranten won the feature.

Mark Pearson

Mark is the Sports Anchor at WDAZ. He comes to Grand Forks from his hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. Mark graduated from Butler University in 2016 and started working at WDAZ in July of that year. Mark is the Monday-Friday Anchor for the 6 and 10 O'clock shows. During his time as the Sports Anchor at WDAZ, he has covered events like March Madness, Super Bowl 52, and interviewed many athletes--from kindergarteners to professionals. Mark loves playing and watching sports as much as he enjoys covering them--when he was in high school, he was the captain of his varsity basketball team, and he played on Butler's club basketball team. Mark's favorite part of being a sports anchor is capturing and sharing the moments in sports that connect the community. Aside from broadcasting and reporting, Mark loves when he has the opportunity to be the play-by-play announcer for athletic events. In his spare time, you can find Mark shooting hoops, eating ice cream, or hanging out with his wife, Kelly, and their cat, Stella. Fun fact: Mark loves math so much, he added a math minor, just so he could take more college calculus courses.
