North Dakota man charged with punching crying infant in head
MINOT, N.D. -- A 29-year-old Lansford man is accused of punching his girlfriend’s 11-month-old daughter in the head with a closed fist last winter out of frustration that the baby wouldn’t stop crying.
Derrick McLean is charged in district court in Minot with Class B felony child abuse.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court, the baby’s mother took her to the hospital for treatment of bruising on the left side of her face. McLean allegedly admitted to the girl’s mother that he had punched the baby Jan. 25. McLean was watching the child while her mother was at work.
McLean is being held in the Ward County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
Lansford is about 30 miles north of Minot.
