Greywind family fundraiser reaches goal to attend murder trial
FARGO - A GoFundMe page fundraiser to help the family of Savanna LaFontaine-Greywind get to the trial for the man accused of killing the 22-year-old reached its goal Thursday morning.
The public raised the $1,000 just two days after the fundraiser was created.
The post on the page reads, in part, “The second defendant in the case is now going to trial on Sept 18th, we are hoping to be in Fargo for the duration of the trial. With our financial situation right now that is not possible, so we are asking for a little help making this possible. Thank you all.”
LaFontaine-Greywind vanished from her Fargo apartment building in August 2017 when she was eight months pregnant. Her body was later found in the Red River, but her baby was missing.
Following an investigation, authorities charged a couple who lived in LaFontaine-Greywind’s apartment building — Brooke Crews and her then-boyfriend, William Hoehn — with a number of crimes, including conspiracy to commit murder.
Crews pleaded guilty in the case and admitted to cutting LaFontaine-Greywind’s baby from her womb. She is serving a life sentence.
When Crews was arrested, police found LaFontaine-Greywind’s newborn. The healthy infant was returned to her father, Ashton Matheny.
Hoehn has pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping and giving false information to police. His trial on conspiracy to commit murder is to start Tuesday, Sept. 18.
