Skate park temporarily relocated
GRAND FORKS, ND (WDAZ)—Some locals are wondering what happened to the old skate park in town, as they want to do a few more tricks while the weather permits.
The old park located on First Avenue and Walnut Street has been temporarily relocated to the North side of the Purpur Arena on 7th Avenue.
Construction for the LaGrave on First housing project has started, forcing the park to be re-located to its temporary location before ground is broken on a permanent new park in the spring.
The new skate park will be located in Kannowski park.
So far the Parks District has raised 275 thousand dollars to complete the first phase of the new park.
“We have the money in place to do phase one, we are waiting on a community development block grant to move forward. It's going to be too late in the construction season to start this fall, so we'll start first thing in the spring,” said Bill Palmiscno of the Grand Forks Parks District.
The Parks Department has also raised 50 thousand dollars to start on the second phase of the new skate park.
Both phases cost 575 thousand dollars.
