Body and vehicle cams, costly upgrade
EAST GRAND FORKS, MN (WDAZ-TV) -- East Grand Forks Police are farther away from having body cams than they expected.
This week, officers met to discuss the purchase, but the upgrades are a little more costly than they anticipated.
The cost of five in-car vehicle cameras and eight body cams is $40,000, but there is an added cost that will keep the department from the purchase right now.
"We are going to have to step back and re-explore that idea and look exactly at what we have for financing and what we exactly need for the cameras and what we can afford at this point in time,” says Michael Hedlund, Grand Forks Police Chief.
The Police Department's software is so out of date, even if they had the cameras they wouldn't work.
The software upgrade alone costs eight thousand dollars.
